Ingredients:
For the Secret Sauce:
– ½ cup mayonnaise
– 2 tablespoons ketchup
– 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
– 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1 teaspoon onion powder
– Salt and pepper to taste
For the Patty Melt:
– 1 lb ground beef
– 4 slices rye bread
– 4 slices Swiss cheese
– 1 large onion, thinly sliced
– 2 tablespoons butter
– Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
1. To make the secret sauce, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Set aside.
2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized (about 15 minutes). Remove from the skillet and set aside.
3. Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties, seasoning with salt and pepper.
4. In the same skillet, cook the patties over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the desired level of doneness is reached.
5. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Place the bread, buttered-side down, on the skillet.
6. Layer each sandwich with a slice of Swiss cheese, a patty, some caramelized onions, and a generous spread of secret sauce. Top with another slice of buttered rye bread.
7. Cook each sandwich, pressing down slightly, for 3-4 minutes per side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
8. Slice and serve immediately.
