Ingredients
– 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
– 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
– 2 teaspoons sugar
– 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup cornmeal
– 1/2 cup olive oil, divided
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– 1 cup pizza sauce
– 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)
– Your choice of toppings (pepperoni, sausage, vegetables, etc.)
Directions
1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and 1/4 cup olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
4. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a deep-dish pizza pan or cast-iron skillet with remaining olive oil.
5. Punch down the dough and roll it out slightly larger than your pan. Press the dough into the pan, ensuring it comes up the sides.
6. Sprinkle the bottom of the crust with 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese.
7. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the cheese layer. Add your choice of toppings, then sprinkle the remaining 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella cheese on top.
8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
9. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
