Vibrant Fresh Fruit Trifle

Ingredients:

For the Cake Layer:
1 pound cake or sponge cake, cut into cubes
1/4 cup orange juice or fruit juice of choice

For the Custard Layer:
3 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
4 large egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Fruit Layer:
2 cups strawberries, sliced
1 cup blueberries
1 cup raspberries
1 cup kiwi, peeled and sliced
1 cup pineapple, diced

For the Whipped Cream Layer:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Custard:
In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Heat over medium heat until the mixture thickens slightly. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks. Gradually add a small amount of the hot milk mixture to the yolks, whisking constantly. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook until thickened, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let cool completely.

2. Whip the Cream:
In a large mixing bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set aside.

3. Assemble the Trifle:
In a large trifle dish or individual glasses, layer the ingredients as follows:
– Cake cubes lightly drizzled with orange juice
– A layer of custard
– A layer of mixed fruits
– A layer of whipped cream

Repeat layers until the dish is full, finishing with whipped cream on top. Decorate with additional fruit for garnish.

4. Chill and Serve:
Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld. Serve chilled and enjoy!
