Ingredients:
For the Brownie Base:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
For the Chocolate Cake Layer:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup whole milk
For the Ganache Topping:
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Brownie Base:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan with parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder until smooth. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Cool completely in the pan.
2. Prepare the Chocolate Cake Layer:
In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
3. Bake the Cake Layer:
Pour the batter over the cooled brownie base. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.
4. Make the Ganache Topping:
Heat the heavy cream until just simmering, then pour over the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
5. Assemble the Cake:
Remove the brownie cake from the pan and place it on a serving plate. Pour the ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides. Smooth with a spatula if desired.
6. Serve:
Let the ganache set for 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
